Sports + Art Together for National Event
Something big—and colorful—is taking shape in Cross Country Town USA.
Six local and regional artists have been selected for The Art of the Run, a new public art project celebrating Terre Haute’s cross country legacy and the return of the NCAA Division I Cross Country Championships on November 21.
The project features six oversized, 5-foot by 8-foot fiberglass running shoes, each transformed into a one-of-a-kind work of art.
Meet the Artists

Shayla Fish – An Indiana artist and educator known for colorful, surreal work blending nature, anatomy and imaginative storytelling.

Watch for the Shoes
The completed sculptures will begin appearing around Terre Haute leading up to the NCAA Championships, creating new photo-worthy stops for runners, visitors and residents. One shoe will also make its way to Indianapolis International Airport, introducing travelers to Terre Haute and its championship running tradition.
After the championships, the shoes will remain as public art—creating a lasting connection between two things Terre Haute loves: sports + arts.
It’s one more reason to explore the creativity, people and traditions that make Terre Haute Cross Country Town USA.
