Your October Getaway
There’s something about fall that makes Terre Haute feel like the place to be.
Maybe you’re coming home to celebrate with old friends at Rose-Hulman, Indiana State or Saint Mary-of-the-Woods. Maybe this will be your first trip to Cross Country Town USA to race at the LaVern Gibson Championship Cross Country Course. Or maybe you’re simply looking for a fun fall getaway filled with local food, art, history and plenty to do. Whatever brings you to the Crossroads of America, stay awhile and find your Terredise.
Back in Town? See What’s New.
Homecoming is a great excuse to revisit the places you remember—and discover a Terre Haute that may look a little different than the one you left.
Head downtown to explore public art, locally owned shops and restaurants, museums and historic architecture. Take a photo with Larry the Legend, explore basketball history at the Larry Bird Museum, or follow the murals and sculptures throughout the 41/40 Arts & Cultural District.
And come hungry. From longtime Terre Haute favorites to newer restaurants, coffee shops, pubs, wineries and breweries, there are plenty of places to reconnect over a great meal.
Here for the Game?
Fall sports are in full swing, bringing athletes and families to Terre Haute for football, volleyball, cross country and more—from middle and high school competitions to college athletics.
October is especially big in Cross Country Town USA, with events like the Nike Twilight Races and Under Armour Pre-National Invitational bringing thousands of runners, coaches and families to the LaVern Gibson Championship Cross Country Course.
Whatever sport brings your family to Terre Haute, make some time between competitions to explore. Head downtown, grab a famous Square Donut, discover our public art and museums, hit the trails or celebrate a great performance over a local meal. The competition may bring you here. Make the rest of Terre Haute part of the trip.
Make It a Fall Getaway
You don’t need a Homecoming or a starting line to enjoy fall in Terre Haute.
Pick pumpkins. Bike the trails at Griffin Bike Park. Walk through the changing leaves at Hawthorn, Deming or Fowler Park. Spend Saturday morning at the Terre Haute Farmers Market, enjoy a seasonal drink from a local coffee shop or explore one of our historic districts.
Then stay the night and give yourself another day to discover something new.
College Town. Cross Country Town USA. Crossroads of America.
However you arrive this October, fall is a pretty great time to find your Terredise.
