Make a Splash at the Terre Haute Children’s Museum

There’s a new reason for families to make a trip to downtown Terre Haute—and you may want to bring a child who doesn’t mind getting a little wet.

The Terre Haute Children’s Museum’s newest experience, Wonders of the Wabash, brings one of our region’s most important natural resources indoors for hands-on exploration.

Located on the museum’s second floor, the new water table is modeled after the Wabash River and nearby Wabashiki Fish and Wildlife Area. Children can move and manipulate water while discovering how the river connects our communities, farmland, wetlands, wildlife and groundwater.

But don't tell the kids it's educational.

For them, it's about splashing, experimenting and figuring out what happens next. The exhibit encourages children to predict, observe, ask questions, try something—and then try it another way.

Wonders of the Wabash is a fitting addition to a museum built around learning through play. The Terre Haute Children’s Museum spans three floors in the heart of downtown and includes experiences for everyone from preschoolers to older children ready to test themselves on the Ropes Challenge Course.

Make a Day of It

One of the best parts about visiting the museum is what you'll find when you walk back outside.
