There's Something New to Ride
If you haven't brought your bike to Griffin Bike Park lately, it's time for another ride. And if you've never been? It's definitely time.
Griffin Bike Park is adding a new paved pump track as part of major improvements to its five-acre LZ Landing Zone Terrain Park, giving riders another reason to head south of Terre Haute for a day on two wheels.
A pump track is designed so riders can us
e the movement of their bodies—and a little momentum—to navigate rollers and turns rather than relying on constant pedaling. That makes it fun for developing riders while giving experienced cyclists plenty of opportunities to work on speed, control and technique.
But the new track is only the beginning.
More Than 30 Miles to Explore
Griffin Bike Park has grown into one of Terre Haute and Vigo County's signature outdoor recreation destinations, with more than 30 miles of trails and specialized riding areas spread throughout the park.
New riders can build confidence on beginner-friendly terrain and skills areas. More experienced riders can find jumps, technical features, dual slalom, cross-country trails and plenty of opportunities to push themselves.
The five-acre LZ Terrain Park serves as a hub for much of that activity, with the pump track, dirt jumps, Dual Slalom Course, XC Eliminator Course, Drop Zone and skills areas all coming together in one place.
And you don't have to be a mountain biker to enjoy Griffin.
The park's trail system gives hikers another way to experience the woods of southern Vigo County, while the adaptive-equipment-friendly Freedom Trail helps make outdoor adventure accessible to more visitors.
Pack the bikes. Bring the helmets. Give yourself enough time to explore. Then, after a day on the trails, head into Terre Haute for dinner and make a weekend out of it.
