Travel Advisories

On April 8, 2024, Terre Haute, Indiana will experience a total solar eclipse at approximately 3:04:18 PM EDT. 
An estimated 10's of thousands of visitors from around the world are anticipated to flock to the city of Terre Haute and surrounding areas. Travel advisories are expected to be released as the date of the event draws closer.

​FEBRUARY 15TH, 2024- RESIDENTS OF THE CITY OF TERRE HAUTE SHOULD EXPECT THE LARGE INFLUX OF VISITORS TO CAUSE TRAFFIC PILEUPS, TRAVEL DELAYS, AND MORE. RESIDENTS ARE URGED TO PREPARE FOR THIS EVENT AS THEY WOULD PREPARE FOR A WEATHER EVENT AND TAKE SIDE STREETS WHEN POSSIBLE.

As the date for the highly anticipated eclipse approaches, the City of Terre Haute urges residents and visitors to prioritize safety and preparedness. With the expected influx of people to our community, it is essential to plan ahead and take necessary precautions.

KEY POINTS TO REMEMBER:

​TIMES: Partial Eclipse will begin at 01:48p.m., Total Eclipse between 3:04p.m. and 3:07p.m. and partial will end at 04:21p.m.

PATIENCE IS KEY: Expect increased traffic and delays during the extended eclipse weekend. Plan your travels accordingly and allow extra time to reach your destination.

SAFETY FIRST: Remember to wear safety glasses when viewing the eclipse to protect your eyes from harmful rays. Ensure that children and pets are also equipped with proper eye protection.

BE PREPARED: Stock up on essentials such as food, water, and gas ahead of time to avoid potential shortages. Stay informed about weather conditions and emergency protocols, i.e.… local news outlets and official social media accounts such as Terre Haute Police.

The Terre Haute Police Department, while working with other law enforcement agencies, local entities, and emergency management teams, has been diligently working to ensure our community is prepared for any situation that may arise. They have coordinated efforts to enhance the City's readiness and response capabilities, focusing on the safety and well-being of all residents.

Street Closures

On April 8, 2024, Terre Haute, Indiana will experience a total solar eclipse at approximately 3:04:18 PM EDT. 
An estimated 10's of thousands of visitors from around the world are anticipated to flock to the city of Terre Haute and surrounding areas. In preparation of handing the large influx of visitors while holding several downtown and city events; certain streets will be closed.

STREET CLOSURES

Wabash Avenue from 6th street to 9th street will be closed on April 7th at 6pm until April 8th at 7pm.
